Firestarter (book 2)

this is a good book

The book that I am reading now is called "Firestarter", by Stephen King.

Five main elements of my book

conflict suspense adventure mood/atmosphere characters

conflict: a father and daughter both have psi powers, the daughter more than the father. the dad's name is Andy  the daughter's name is Charlie  there is a special branch of the government that is after them. they are referred to as "the shop". They want to capture Charlie and perform tests on her to see what gives her the powers she has. Charlie has pyrokinesis (the ability to light fires with the mind), telepathy (talk to someone else using thoughts, read the minds of people around her, see a few minutes into the future) and telekinesis (the ability to move objects with the mind). Andy has something only referred to as "the push", and he uses it to make people believe him, make them change their minds, or control their thoughts. The Shop wants him killed and his daughter captured.

suspense: The author tells the story in third person, switching between key characters in the story. But sometimes, the author tells the story as if spectating an event, but able to know what each character is experiencing and feeling. When the author tells the story from the perspective of Andy or Charlie, he doesn't give away any major details that the reader would need to know in order to create a feeling of unknowing (suspense).

Adventure: In Firestarter, the reader is taken to many different locales throughout America. The main characters are running from the government, so there are a lot of country areas that are visited in the story, which are described with great detail, as though the author has actually seen these make believe places.

Mood/Atmosphere: Throughout Firestarter, there is mostly a sadness and fear, because you know that the father and daughter can't run forever, so there is eventually going to be a point where either they die, or they are set free. the author makes the reader feel as though the book will end in the deaths of Charlie and Andy. the author lightens the mood though, with smart jokes that take a minute to understand, and takes the reader on flashbacks wherein the reader learns of better times that Andy and his deceased wife lived in.

Characters
Andy McGee: Charlie's father. In college, he participated in an experiment with a friend (whom he later married) and both were injected with Lot 6 (it was an experimental drug where it was supposed to create psi abilities (it was the 60's)). He loves his daughter very much, and would die for her. he takes her on the road to escape the shop, after finding his wife dead in their home and Charlie missing from school.

Charlie McGee: Andy's daughter, she is 8 years old, and can set things on fire just by looking at them. She is smart, funny, and cares so much for her father and mother. When she was younger she was told to never use her powers, so it was ingrained in her that it was a bad thing. She is reluctant to use her powers because she was always told that it was "the bad thing" and that it could hurt people. so when her father asks her to use it to save them, she has a difficult decision to make.
